Reading for Pleasure

We value reading for pleasure highly and work hard as a school to grow our Reading for Pleasure pedagogy.  We read to children every day, choosing these books carefully as we want children to experience a wealth of quality texts.

  • Our classroom has an inviting book corner that encourages a love for reading.
  • In Class 1, children have access to the reading corner every day in their free flow time and the books are refreshed to match current learning, topics and interests.
  • The children also take home Sharing Books weekly which they select from a range of non-fiction, fiction and poetry books in school.  We encourage families to enjoy these books together and value this experience of quality time together with a good book.
  • Children also have regular opportunities to engage with Reading for Pleasure events such as World Book Day or National Poetry Day.

Our Visit from RAF Menwith Hill

We got together as a school to have a fire safety talk from RAF MJenwith Hill, where we got to meet Sparky the dog, who helped show us what to do in the case of a fire.  It was both informative and great fun!

Our Visit to the Church

We had a great time at the church with Father Paul, who helped us learn more about Baptism.

Our Hindu Workshop

We were so lucky to have The Indian Experience come and deliver a Hindu Workshop with us. This amazing experience helped us to understand Indian traditions, and we got to do so many exciting activites such as; dressing up in Traditional Indian Clothing, Bollywood Dancing and creating Rangoli Artwork! We had the best day!

World Book Day

Class 1 had such an amazing day! Our book was The Barnabus Project by The Fan Brothers
